Athletistic/OI-2024. Russian State Duma deputy and head of the Committee on Physical Culture and Sports Dmitry Svishchev commented on the decision of Russian TV channels not to broadcast the upcoming Olympic Games in Paris.

For the first time since 1984, federal television will not broadcast the Olympic Games.

— Do you think that the lack of broadcasting of the Olympic Games will negatively affect the development of sports in Russia?

“It is not the lack of broadcasting of the Olympics that will have a negative impact, but the absence of our athletes at the Games and the illegal restrictive measures introduced by the IOC. What is the problem if we do not see foreigners? We do not watch the Asian Games, the South American Games or the American Championships, do we? This is only of interest to professionals and those who bet on sports. For example, I watch sports that interest me professionally. I am not going to watch the Olympic Games because I see the discriminatory conditions in which they are held, limiting the rights of our athletes. Many athletes refuse to participate in the Paris Olympics for obvious reasons.

I support the central channels in their decision not to buy broadcasting rights from the IOC. Why support those who have adopted an anti-Russian position? There is no point in supporting them. Sports professionals and fans can follow the competitions they are interested in via the Internet or on commercial sports channels. There is nothing wrong with that.

“Children will not see top athletes and will not be encouraged to play sports.

— Which athletes will they not see? Americans, French, Germans? Are the Russians in a neutral status? We have the technical capacity to watch the Olympic Games if we wish. But buying broadcasts and supporting an organization that is not favorable to us is unfair.

In Russia, it is now important to support national sports. The President said that special attention should be paid to children’s, youth and mass sports. We need to build new grounds, new stadiums and solve personnel problems. We do not have enough trainers; we need to create conditions for decent remuneration for their work.

“There is no point in supporting those who do not want to see us at the Olympics. The lack of broadcasting of the Olympic Games without our athletes is not an obstacle to the development of sports in Russia,” Svishchev said in an interview with “Sport Day by Day.”
