Legislators believe that all athletes liable for military service are required to know the text of the Russian anthem, and if an athlete is on the list of candidates for sports teams of the Russian Federation, they must take the athlete’s oath.
“These measures will help to unite the Russian sports movement, strengthen its loyalty to sports principles and its country, and also emphasize the responsibility and essential nature of the activities of athletes – candidates and members of the Russian national teams perform their activities, including in the interests of Russia,” Russian State Duma deputy Dmitry Svishchev told “Sport-Express”.
It is proposed to introduce changes in this direction by the draft federal law “On Amendments to the Federal Law “On Physical Culture and Sport”. Its consideration is expected to take place during the autumn session of the Lower House of Parliament.
