Former figure skater and choreographer Eva Kuts, who starred in ice dancing with Dmitry Mikhailov, complained in a conversation with that many St. Petersburg national team skaters had left the last year’s short programs.
On Tuesday, the test skates of the St. Petersburg team took place in the northern capital. The skaters presented short programs for the season.
It was very cold in the arena today. How can athletes deal with such conditions?
– I heard that many athletes have been training in such conditions for several days. Something happened to the cars in the arena. Were a bit cold. Its good. It happens. Many went out to warm up in jackets. Athletes in such conditions need to move more and divert attention from the situation.
– How do you like the junior programs?
– In comparison with the Novogorsk juniors, today’s programs looked weak. There were few interesting performances. I evaluated the programs from a submission and slippage perspective.
— What can you say about the adult team?
— I don’t dare talk about the masters who performed today. They are great athletes, they skated with dignity, at their level.
– With the men out in the arena, it’s even hotter. Did you drive well?
– Yes, the guys skated on adrenaline, emotionally. Dimka Aliev, for the love of emotions, made a small mistake on the track. The start of the season, not everyone is in full preparation. Too bad not everyone changed their program. I expected skaters to step out of their comfort zone, look for more interesting music, maybe use Russian compositions. But many left the programs last year. It’s boring, of course,” Kuts noted.
On Wednesday, the skaters will present their free program.
