Kamil Bury and Dominik Bury won bronze in the team sprint at the Roller Ski World Championships in Madona, Latvia, on Friday, delivering one of Polish cross-country skiing's best results in years.
The brothers crossed the line in 20 minutes 13.46 seconds in the men's 6x1.7km freestyle team sprint. They finished nearly a minute and a half behind the gold medallists and less than 45 seconds behind the silver medallists.
Latvia's Lauris Kaparkalejs and Raimo Vigants, competing on home ground, took gold. Sweden's Erik Fransson and Simon Karlsson finished second.
Brothers with Olympic pedigree
Kamil Bury and Dominik Bury have both represented Poland at the Winter Olympics, competing at the 2018 Pyeongchang Games and the 2022 Beijing Games. Dominik Bury also competed at this year's Winter Olympics in Milan.
The Polish Ski Association celebrated the result on X, describing it as a podium finish in the team competition in roller skiing at the World Championships in Madona. The association said all of Poland's duos performed well and finished in the top 10, and praised the team and its coaches.
Other Polish results
Poland's senior women also came close to a medal. Andżelika Szyszka and Aleksandra Kołodziej finished fifth in the women's team sprint.
In the junior categories, Martyna Rosiak and Kamila Haratyk placed eighth among the junior women, while Adam Jaroń and Filip Juroszek finished ninth among the junior men.
A rare success for Polish skiing
Polish cross-country skiing has struggled for standout results since Justyna Kowalczyk-Tekiela, the country's most decorated cross-country skier, ended her career. Eliza Rucka-Michałek offered a recent sign of hope by finishing eighth in the women's 50km mass start at this year's Winter Olympics in Milan.
Roller skiing is the summer version of cross-country skiing, performed on wheeled skis on asphalt or roads, and is used by athletes and federations to train and compete outside the snow season.
