AS Roma opened their 2026/27 Serie A campaign with a 4-0 home win over Fiorentina on Monday, with new signing Rodrigo Mora starting his first match for the club.
Dutch forward Donyell Malen scored a hat-trick, netting in the 27th, 52nd and 60th minutes, with all three goals set up by Argentine playmaker Paulo Dybala. Niccolo Pisilli added a fourth goal in the 86th minute, seven minutes after coming on as a substitute.
Mora's first game for Roma
Mora, 19, joined Roma from FC Porto and was named in the starting eleven for the match. In the 19th minute he came close to opening the scoring with what would have been a spectacular strike, only for Spanish goalkeeper David de Gea to make a strong save to deny him. Mora was substituted in the 54th minute.
De Gea, who spent more than a decade at Manchester United before moving to Italy, started for Fiorentina. Also in the visitors' line-up was right back Joao Mario, formerly of FC Porto, who played as a left back and was substituted in the 80th minute.
Malen and Dybala lead the rout
Malen's hat-trick, all three goals created by Dybala, put the result beyond doubt before either player was withdrawn. Malen came off in the 68th minute and Dybala followed in the 79th. Pisilli, who had entered the game in the 79th minute, completed the scoring seven minutes later in the 86th.
Lazio beat Bologna
In the day's other Serie A fixture, Lazio beat Bologna 1-0 thanks to a solitary goal from midfielder Davide Frattesi, who is on loan from Inter Milan. Frattesi scored following a throw-in and a backheel pass from Senegalese forward Boulaye Dia.
Portugal international left back Nuno Tavares started on the bench for Lazio and was brought on in the 79th minute.
