World number one Scottie Scheffler took a two-shot lead into the final round of the FedEx St Jude Championship at TPC Southwind in Memphis after shooting a two-under-par 68 on Saturday.
The 30-year-old American golfer sits at 13 under par overall as he looks to complete his first PGA Tour victory since winning The American Express tournament in California at the start of the year.
Scheffler held a three-stroke advantage at the halfway stage after posting a course-record nine-under 61 in his second round, but his lead was trimmed by one stroke on Saturday after he bogeyed his penultimate hole.
American golfer Sam Burns moved into joint second place alongside South Korea's Sungjae Im after carding a bogey-free eight-under 62. Im shot a three-under 67 to join Burns on 11 under par.
Third round play at TPC Southwind
Scheffler opened his third round in Tennessee with a birdie on the second hole before dropping a shot at the fourth. He responded on the back nine with birdies at the 11th, 12th, and 16th holes to reach 14 under par.
His only late setback arrived at the par-four 17th hole, where his second shot found a left-hand bunker. The resulting bogey brought him back to 13 under par for the tournament.
Despite not winning since January, Scheffler has put together a consistent season. He has recorded nine top-five finishes, including five runner-up places, most recently finishing second at the 3M Open in his previous event.
Defending FedExCup Playoffs champion Tommy Fleetwood of England remains five strokes behind Scheffler on eight under par after registering a two-under 68 on Saturday.
Fleetwood's third round was highlighted by a long birdie putt on the 13th hole. He sits in a share of fourth place alongside American player Jake Knapp.
Rory McIlroy third round score
World number two Rory McIlroy struggled during his third round at TPC Southwind, posting a two-over 72 to fall 19 shots off the lead into a tie for 67th place on six over par.
The 37-year-old Northern Irishman, a three-time FedExCup champion, has not recorded a round under par at the Memphis venue this week.
McIlroy was at even par for his round heading to the 18th tee, having made birdies at the ninth and 10th holes along with bogeys on the second and 13th holes. However, he finished his day with a double bogey on the 18th after sending his drive into the water.
FedExCup Playoffs format and rules
The FedEx St Jude Championship is the first of three playoff events that conclude the PGA Tour season, open only to the top 70 players in the season standings.
The top 50 players after this week will advance to the BMW Championship, held from August 20 to 23, with only the top 30 moving on to the Tour Championship from August 27 to 30.
Winners of the first two playoff events earn 750 points each before all points reset to zero ahead of the Tour Championship.
Following changes made to the system in 2025, the starting-strokes model based on playoff standings was eliminated, meaning all 30 players will start the final event at even par.
The winner of the Tour Championship will be crowned the 2026 FedExCup champion, earning a 10 million dollar (£7.4 million) bonus and a five-year PGA Tour exemption.
