Russian tennis player Daniel Medvedev said it was not yet possible to solve the problem of hot weather matches at the US Open.
Thursday night, Medvedev beat his compatriot Andrei Rublev in the quarterfinals of the US Open with a score of 6:4, 6:3, 6:4.
— Would you like to change anything about the organization of tennis tournaments under such conditions?
The problem is that I’m not sure we can do anything. We can’t stop the tournament for a few days, because the break will ruin everything: ticketing, broadcasting.
So I don’t think the tournament can be interrupted. Is it possible in such conditions to switch to the format of the match in three sets? Some will still be dissatisfied. You lose the first two sets and the match is over. And you think, “Damn, I wanted to win back.”
So at the moment I don’t have a solution to this problem. Even if we try to play all matches in different stadiums in the evening, it won’t be much better than our match. Even in the evening it is very hot and humid in New York,” Medvedev told a news conference.
In the semi-finals, Medvedev will face Spanish world number one Carlos Alcaras.
