Soviet and Russian luger, silver medalist at the 1984 Olympic Games, Evgeny Belousov, died at the age of 61, reports the press service of the Russian Luge Federation.
Belousov played doubles as part of a crew with Alexander Belyakov.
— The Russian Luge Federation team expresses its sincere condolences to the family and friends of Evgeniy Belousov. The legendary athlete died at the age of 61. He was a wonderful person, a talented athlete and coach who glorified his homeland in the arena of world sports. We cry with you,” the message said.
In addition to silver at the 1984 Olympics, Belousov won bronze at the 1989 World Championships, gold and bronze at the European Championships (1986, 1988). Together with Belyakov he won the World Cup at the end of the 1987/88 season.
