Ex-biathlete of the Russian national team Virolainen in the new season could start playing for the Finnish national team

Former national biathlete Russia Daria Virolainen in the new season can start playing for the team Finland Daria’s former coach Leonid Myakishev told .

Virolainen finished second in the 15km individual race at the Finnish Summer Biathlon Championships on Sunday.

– She has been living there with them (with her family) for a long time, she has already obtained citizenship, so she will probably run for Finland. Yes, if she has the strength, she will play for this team from the new season. Dasha had a baby this year, so she hadn’t trained before. Of course, she still has the opportunity to run, – said Myakishev.

– How does Finland consider its possible participation in the World Cup or the IBU Cup?

– There is simply no team as such. At one point there was Kaisa Mäkäräinen and two or three people. The fact is that the state does not support athletes, they survive on their own. They earn money themselves, they spend it themselves, like, for example, Nastya Kuzmina in Slovakia.

Virolainen, 33, is the daughter of three-time Olympic champion Anfisa Reztsova and the sister of two-time Olympic medalist Kristina Reztsova. Virolainen missed last season due to pregnancy, before which she was on the World Cup podium twice.
