Serie A striker Yael Trepy is in intensive care after he almost drowned in a swimming pool at a mansion in Sardinia, Italy.
The 20-year-old French forward was airlifted to hospital by helicopter following the incident, which occurred during a day off after Cagliari beat Arezzo in the Italian Cup on Friday.

Cagliari confirmed in a statement on Monday morning that Trepy is receiving treatment in northern Sardinia. "Cagliari Calcio announces that the player Yael Trepy is currently hospitalised at the Santissima Annunziata Civil Hospital in Sassari, where he is in intensive care," the club said.
"The Club is in constant contact with the healthcare facility and the player's family and is closely monitoring the progress of his condition," the statement added. "At this time, Cagliari Calcio's thoughts are with Yael and his family. The Club also requests the utmost respect for their privacy and will provide any updates when available."
Top-flight club Cagliari are reported to be worried about the young forward following the emergency.
Pool incident details
Reports from Sardinian newspaper Unione Sarda stated that the accident happened in the afternoon when Trepy lost consciousness in the pool. After being rushed to hospital, "Trepy performed all the necessary tests, which fortunately were negative."
Italian national newspaper La Repubblica reported that Trepy cannot swim and ended up at the deep end of the swimming pool. The accident took place at a private property in the luxury Costa Smeralda area, a coastal resort region in northern Sardinia.

Career background and schedule
Trepy had started Friday's Italian Cup fixture against Arezzo, playing 54 minutes in a 1-0 victory. Cagliari players were subsequently granted two days of rest following the match and are scheduled to resume training on Monday.
The Sardinian club brought Trepy into their youth academy system in 2022, and the striker successfully progressed into the first-team squad. He won the Italian equivalent of the FA Youth Cup in 2025, scoring in the final against AC Milan, and has previously been compared to former France international Thierry Henry in his youth.
In his debut Serie A campaign last season, Trepy scored once in eight appearances for Cagliari, who finished 14th in the Italian top flight. Cagliari are scheduled to open their new Serie A league season against Parma on Saturday.
