AEK owner Marios Iliopoulos met face to face with Croatian midfielder Lovro Majer in Greece after the team returned from pre-season training in the Netherlands.
Majer completed his transfer and signed a contract through 2030 during the training camp in the Netherlands. Iliopoulos welcomed the midfielder in person upon the squad's arrival back in Greece.
Expectations and team role
Iliopoulos told Majer that he is an important player for AEK and noted that he is replacing an equally important player who gave his soul for the club. The owner stated that the team bases a lot on Majer and expects a great deal from him because of his talent and what he can bring to the squad.
Iliopoulos added that when the transfer was discussed days earlier, he was immediately in favor of bringing Majer into the AEK family. He noted that Majer already understands what AEK represents and told the midfielder that he would attend whenever Majer invites him.
Majer thanked Iliopoulos for the warm welcome and expressed happiness at joining the club. He noted that the transfer was completed rapidly within three to four days.
Speed and jersey exchange
Iliopoulos responded that the organization acts quickly in all matters, including sports, business, and personal hobbies. Recalling a phrase from his youth about having the eye of the tiger, Iliopoulos said he saw intelligence and that same tiger look in Majer's eyes as they prepare for the season.
During the meeting, Majer presented Iliopoulos with his number 7 Croatia national team jersey from the Euro 2024 match against Spain. In return, Iliopoulos handed Majer the AEK number 14 jersey that the player will wear this season.
