Arouca climbed to the top of the Portuguese Primeira Liga table on Sunday evening after securing a comprehensive 4-0 victory over Moreirense at home in the second round of the domestic season.
The host side virtually wrapped up the match in the first half through a 23rd-minute own goal by Moreirense defender Maracás, a strike from central defender Fontán seven minutes later, and a header from Spanish forward Barbero in first-half stoppage time, before substitute Nandín added a fourth in the 91st minute.

The result puts Arouca provisionally top of the standings on six points, level with FC Porto, whom they are scheduled to play next at the Estádio do Dragão. Moreirense remain on one point and occupy 15th place in the 18-team Portuguese top flight.
First-half surge resolves contest
Both managers, who share the first name Vasco, exchanged compliments before kick-off regarding their shared commitment to attacking football. Played under hot conditions on a scorching afternoon, the game saw Arouca take control early by dominating possession.
Arouca threatened as early as the 13th minute when a rehearsed free-kick routine finished with Trezza sending a shot grazing past the right post of goalkeeper André Ferreira. Moreirense had responded briefly in the 19th minute, testing Arouca goalkeeper Arruabarrena through Alexandre Parsemain after forcing a rare turnover in the home side's build-up play.
The opening goal arrived in the 23rd minute when Maracás, wearing the captain's armband in central defence after being brought into the line-up as one of Moreirense's defensive changes, accidentally deflected a cross from the left into his own net. Seven minutes later, Arouca capitalized on another set piece when Fontán directed the ball into the net immediately following a corner kick.
Moreirense struggled to regain composure after conceding twice in quick succession. In the first minute of first-half stoppage time, Barbero kept a loose ball alive before finding Djouahra on the left wing. Djouahra delivered a trivela cross using the outside of his boot, allowing Barbero to head past André Ferreira and make it 3-0.
Substitutions and late fourth goal
Moreirense head coach Vasco Botelho da Costa made tactical adjustments at the interval, introducing Dinis Pinto and João Veloso for the second half. The changes allowed the visiting side to push their defensive lines higher and create more presence near the opposition penalty area against a more measured Arouca team.
Both teams had entered the fixture having made a single defensive change from their opening weekend line-ups. Arouca handed a starting spot on the left side of defence to new signing Lebedenko, while Moreirense placed Maracás in the centre of their backline.
Despite Moreirense's second-half efforts, Arouca retained control of the contest and sealed the scoreline in the 91st minute. Djouahra provided his second assist of the match, setting up substitute Nandín to finish from close range and seal the four-goal victory.
Arouca now prepare for their upcoming fixture against FC Porto at the Dragão, seeking to maintain their unbeaten start to the Primeira Liga campaign.
