NBA star DeMar DeRozan has been candid about his mental health and how it might relate to leaving the court; check the lines
DeMar DeRozanstar of NBA, broke the silence on the pressure in the league and answered when will you feel truly fulfilled with your mental health. In an interview on the podcast “The Old Man and The Three”, the 33-year-old athlete highlighted that retirement will be very good for his own psychological well-being.
“It’s crazy, but I don’t think I ever said what I’m going to reveal now… I won’t be entirely happy until I retire from the NBA”nailed DeRozan. “There is a lot of internal pressure to be the best day after day. Anyway, you carry so much with yourself that you can’t be totally happy until you get out of this rut.”
the player of Chicago Bulls still completed: “Everything we go through in our career is part of the journey. And as your career goes on, you have to accept what comes along with it, and understand how to strengthen yourself and become a better person. Because, you know, it’s not enough for you to just feel happy.”
The ward, who was already known for speaking openly about mental health and issues related to depression, pointed out that the healing process is gradual. “When I agreed to go to therapy, I thought I would be fine in ten sessions. But it doesn’t work like that. It’s an ongoing journey. So, for me, therapy helped me understand that life is a journey.”he explained.
DeRozan was also asked on the podcast by JJ Redick regarding a post on Twitter by the Californian All-Star that addressed the topic discussed. “Sometimes you can feel like your day is bad. Then you take your phone and see the most beautiful places, people posting pictures where they are beautiful, happy, having fun. So you can get lost in seeing something that is not genuine, i.e. letting it affect you.”replied the athlete.
“Personally, that night, I tweeted sort of to send a message: that I’m going through some tough times too, but you have to stay focused. Like, you’re not alone in this.” concluded. O Chicago Bulls returns to the court during the 2022/2023 NBA preseason, on Tuesday, the 4th, against the New Orleans Pelicans.
