MBK Nikolaev will not be able to participate in the Ukrainian Basketball Championship this season. This was reported by the club’s management. The main reason was the war and the city’s front-line status.
At the same time, the team said that they plan to enter the competition next season and ask them to keep their status as a tournament participant for the 2023/24 season.
“Unfortunately, the situation with the participation of MBK Nikolaev in the championship of the Ukraine Superleague season 2022/23 has changed. The city of Nikolaev is a front-line city, therefore, it suffers every day from a large number of air alerts and under the threat of a missile strike. Thus, it is not appropriate to hold training camps and home games.
We are convinced that for all the fans of the club, as well as the club itself, this is painful news. But the team has already applied to the FBU with a request to maintain the status of a Superleague team and to be given the right to participate in the 2023/24 season, especially in the championship of the Ukrainian Superleague among men’s teams,” the statement of official club statement.
