Prometheus basketball club players want to play in the Super League. Basketball players said this in an open letter addressed to the Basketball Federation of Ukraine, FBU President Mikhail Brodsky, and Minister of Youth and Sports of Ukraine Vadym Gutsait.
“Everyone knows the situation with the obligatory contribution for the basketball club Prometheus to the Basketball Federation for participation in the championship of Ukraine, which is 4.5 million hryvnias, while for all other clubs it is 40 thousand hryvnias.
The president of the club Vladimir Dubinsky and the players of our team spoke about this publicly in a long interview, but we did not receive a response from the FBU, the payment for Prometheus was not reduced.
By such actions on the part of the federation, the sports careers of twelve young players of our club are endangered, who are now forced to miss the next season, despite the fact that they are ready to take part in the Ukrainian championship, because they started their preparations for the season in August.
At the same time, despite the difficult times for the country, Prometheus opened his own basketball school and gave many children the opportunity to play basketball in a new hall with modern equipment. The club also supports young Ukrainian basketball players in Riga, who were forced to leave Ukraine due to the Russian military invasion.
We would like to draw your attention to the fact that the general sponsor of Prometheus, Budinvest Engineering, has also been the sponsor of the Ukrainian national team in the last qualifying games for the World Championship.
Yesterday, the mail of the Latvian-Estonian League received a letter from the FBU stating that Prometheus does not pay a fee for participation in the Ukrainian championship in the 2022/23 season. And the FBU automatically stripped the players of their licenses.
As players who have been playing for the Ukrainian national team for many years, we want to learn and understand how this is possible in a civilized world. All club players are officially registered in the Latvian-Estonian League and have already played two official games. That is, the players of the Prometheus club cannot also participate in the Latvian-Estonian league?
We are Ukrainian athletes, our only desire is to play under the flags of Ukraine, to prove our incompetence to the world, to glorify our country in the arenas of Europe. And now we don’t understand why they make a bargaining chip on us. We strive for only one thing – to represent and play for Ukraine.
We ask you to look into the situation, resolve this issue and make a fair decision that will benefit Ukrainian basketball and Ukraine as a whole.
We believe that no one will be better, that Prometheus will not take part in the championship of Ukraine and will not represent our country in the European arena.
At a time when the whole country is united, when everyone in their area shows the desire for a common victory against the enemy, we ask you to resolve this issue in favor of Ukrainian basketball,” the club said in a statement.
It will be recalled that earlier the FBU explained its position regarding the fee increase for the Prometheus basketball club.
