Brodsky: One club cannot dictate terms to everyone, we can adequately hold the championship of Ukraine without Prometheus

FBU President responded to a letter from Ukrainian Prometheus players

President of the Basketball Federation of Ukraine Mikhail Brodsky responded to a letter from Ukrainian players Prometheus about the request to reconsider the decision FBU about deprivation of their professional licenses.

“Today, Mr. Dubinsky has felt like a major basketball mogul who can shake money, bribe Ukrainian clubs with his handouts in hard times, and discredit the federation in front of FIBA by playing in the commercial league, despite his previous promise to play in the Champions League.”

“In such realities, I absolutely do not see anything terrible in the bid contribution to the Ukrainian championship for Prometheus in the amount of 4.5 million hryvnias, which would go to support Ukrainian clubs. In such a situation, we could also help clubs in difficult times and prevent money from capturing them. As a result, Prometheus did not pay fees for participation in the Championship of Ukraine. He didn’t even pay the 40,000 that other clubs paid. Unfortunately, this club will miss at least one Ukrainian season.

According to FIBA rules, Prometheus had to first receive letters of dismissal from other federations for each of the players (which he did in the summer), and then submit a list of players to the FBU in order to obtain the appropriate licenses for the right to play in the Ukrainian Championship. Prometheus did not do this, because he refused to take part in the Ukrainian Championship. Thus, all Prometheus players, although they have the status of suspended players, are not licensed by FBU players.

“We gave the club almost two months, but instead of being constructive, we got a dialogue of ultimatums, as well as distorted facts from a letter signed by the players. We will not and do not want to offend anyone, just one club cannot dictate terms to everyone. Now there are 8 clubs in the Super League without Dubinsky, 17 teams in the Premier League and 15 teams in the women’s league, we will be able to adequately hold the championship of Ukraine without Prometheus, who found himself in a different reality.”

Recall that Prometheus did not confirm his participation in the championship of Ukraine without paying the entry fee. Instead of 40 thousand hryvnia, the FBU demands 4.5 million from Prometheus. FBU President Brodsky explained why such a sum.

Later, the FBU warned Prometheus and MBK Nikolaev, who did not pay the fee, that “due to the non-participation of both clubs in the Ukrainian championship, the contracts of MBK Nikolaev and Prometheus with players are not protected from the point of view of the players’ ability to terminate them ahead of schedule and change teams.”

To date, Prometheus has already started in the Latvian-Estonian league and in the Eurocup.
