Ukrainian Prometheus players: FBU automatically deprived us of licenses. Why are we made into small change?

A new round of conflict between FBU and Prometheus

Ukrainian players BC Prometheus turned to Basketball Federation of UkraineFBU President Mikhail Brodsky and Minister of Youth and Sports of Ukraine Vadim Gutsait with a request to reconsider the decision of the FBU to deprive the players of BC Prometheus of professional licenses.

“Everyone knows the situation with the obligatory contribution for the basketball club Prometheus to the Basketball Federation for participation in the championship of Ukraine, which is 4.5 million hryvnia, while for all other clubs it is 40 thousand hryvnia.”

“The president of the club Vladimir Dubinsky and the players of our team spoke about this publicly in a long interview, but we did not receive a response from the FBU, the fee for Prometheus was not reduced.”

“Such actions on the part of the federation endangered the sports career of twelve young players of our club, who are now forced to miss the next season, despite the fact that they are ready to take part in the Ukrainian championship, because they began their preparation for the season back in August” .

“At the same time, despite the difficult times for the country, Prometheus opened his basketball school and provided many children with the opportunity to play basketball in a new hall with modern equipment. The club also supports young Ukrainian basketball players who are in Riga and are forced to leave Ukraine due to Russian military aggression.”

“Yesterday, the mail of the Latvian-Estonian League received a letter from the FBU stating that Prometheus did not pay a fee for participating in the Ukrainian championship in the 2022/23 season. And the FBU automatically revoked the licenses of the players.”

“As players who have been playing for the Ukrainian national team for many years, we want to learn and understand how this is possible in a civilized world. All club players are officially registered in the Latvian-Estonian League and have already played two official games. That is, the players of the Prometheus club cannot participate in the Latvian-Estonian league either?

“We are Ukrainian athletes, our only desire is to play under the flags of Ukraine, to prove our invincibility to the world, to glorify our country in European arenas. And now we do not understand why they make a bargaining chip out of us. We strive for only one thing – to represent and play for Ukraine.”

“We ask you to look into the situation, resolve this issue and make a fair decision that will benefit Ukrainian basketball and Ukraine as a whole. We believe that no one will feel better if Prometheus does not take part in the Ukrainian championship and does not represent our country in the European arena.”

“At a time when the whole country is uniting, when everyone in their place demonstrates the desire for a common victory over the enemy, we ask that this issue be resolved in favor of Ukrainian basketball.”

The appeal was signed by Denis Lukashov, Ilya Sidorov, Ivan Tkachenko, Issuf Sanon, Alexander Lipovoy, Vyacheslav Petrov.

Recall that Prometheus did not confirm his participation in the championship of Ukraine without paying the entry fee. Instead of 40 thousand hryvnia, the FBU demands 4.5 million from Prometheus. FBU President Brodsky explained why such a sum.

Later, the FBU warned Prometheus and MBK Nikolaev, who did not pay the fee, that “due to the non-participation of both clubs in the Ukrainian championship, the contracts of MBK Nikolaev and Prometheus with players are not protected from the point of view of the players’ ability to terminate them ahead of schedule and change teams.”

To date, Prometheus has already started in the Latvian-Estonian league and in the Eurocup.
