NBA Hall of Famer Dikembe Mutombo has been diagnosed with a brain tumor

Member of the National Basketball Association (NBA) Hall of Fame Dikembe Mutombo is undergoing treatment for a brain tumor, according to the NBA press service.

Mutombo, who ranks second in NBA history in block shots, would begin treatment in Atlanta and be in “good spirits.”

Dikembe and his family are asking for privacy at this time so they can focus on his care. They are grateful for your prayers and well wishes,” the league said in a statement.

Mutombo, 56, spent 18 seasons in the NBA playing for the Denver Nuggets, Atlanta Hawks, Philadelphia 76ers, New Jersey Nets, New York Knicks and Houston Rockets. He retired after the 2008/09 season.

Dikembe was named Defensive Player of the Year four times, was named to the NBA All-Star Team three times, and appeared in eight All-Star Games.

Mutombo speaks nine languages ​​and founded a foundation of the same name in 1997 to improve the health, education and quality of life of people in Congo. His foundation oversaw the construction of a 170-bed hospital in Kinshasa, where nearly half a million people were treated. The Congolese Mutombo has American nationality.
