MBA forward Andrei Lopatine in an interview with , he told what his team’s unexpected start had to do with this United League season, explained why he left CSKA and also shared his expectations of the upcoming encounter with his former team.
MBA will play with CSKA in the regular season away game on October 17 at the Basket Hall. The meeting starts at 8:00 p.m. (Moscow time).

— After three rounds, the MBA and CSKA share first place in the standings. To what do you attribute the successful start of your team?
“I want it to last a long time. And I explain the success of the departure by a good “alchemy” in the team. We have all known each other for a long time. Let’s say there were only sports schools. We are almost all the same age. We have been through a lot together and in principle we understand what to expect from each of us. We play together, and the coach sees it. Everything is positive. With this attitude, we are heading for victories.
– But many did not expect such results from the league rookie.
“Maybe so. But within the team, we pretty much understand that. Yes, you might not get first place right away, but still, the goal – the first place – is there, and we are advancing there.
— How was your transition to the MBA? Why didn’t you stay at CSKA during the off-season?
“Well, we have to move on. I had little playing time at CSKA. All four years had approximately the same number of minutes. I spoke with the management and the agents of the club – everyone understood that I needed to move forward, to develop myself. Therefore, after the contract with CSKA expired, I chose the MBA club. There were other options, but I preferred the MBA.
– If I understand correctly, the next meeting with CSKA is very important for you? Maybe there is excitement?
– Well, I will listen to this match, as well as other matches. There may be a modicum of excitement, but I try to minimize it.
– What is the game like with the army team?
– CSKA is a top club. Every game against such an experienced opponent is very important for us young people. So on Monday we will have a very interesting meeting.
