The International Basketball Federation (FIBA) has decided to withdraw the Russian women’s team from participation in the European Championship qualification in 2023, according to website FIBA.
“Today’s decision, which comes after careful consideration of developments in Ukraine, the decisions of the FIBA Executive Committee and the directives of the International Olympic Committee, means that Russia and Belarus are suspended from the next EuroBasket qualifiers in November 2022 and February 2023. .
The results of these two teams in their groups will be declared void in accordance with the rules in force, the statement said.
During the qualifying phase of the tournament, the Russians played in group F with the teams of Denmark, Montenegro and Austria. The Russian national team took the top spot in the table, gaining four points from two matches. The Belarus team was top of Group I.
The European Championship in 2023 will take place in Slovenia and Israel.
