Irving and LeBron James were successful in the NBA, but the Nets player made some controversial statements and both are in a cloudy moment
LeBron James, Kyrie Irving and NBA are the perfect mix. The duo was successful in the biggest basketball competition in the world with the shirt of the Cleveland Cavaliers, but the relationship between the two is not the best nowadays. That’s because, in 2020, the star of the Brooklyn Nets spoke about the decision-making power of Kevin Durant and the statement sounded like a sting in the “King.”
At the time, in an interview for the “Road Trippin” podcast, still in 2020, LeBron James made a long rant about Kyrie Irving and showed that he didn’t like the NBA star comparison at all: “I was surprised. Once I got the whole transcript, I was like, damn. I wasn’t like, ‘Oh you’re trippin’, I’ve been hitting shots my whole life’ The whole time I was there, I just wanted to see you as our league’s MVP“.
CHANNEL – ATHLETISTIC:
Long after these statements from the NBA stars, it was Irving’s turn to comment on the matter in speech for the Boardroom’s “The ETCs” podcast. The Brooklyn Nets star warned that he never wanted to get into trouble with LeBron James and that there was a misinterpretation on the part of the Los Angeles Lakers star at the time.
“Shout out to LeBron, you know what I mean. He felt like I was despising him, and I would never despise him in a way that would probably make him respond to things like that, you know what I mean? I respect him too much. We go through our own battles as teammates, as competitors together. So, like that, it’s all part, bro“, he stated.
It’s all fun, but when you need to communicate through alternate channels, it just makes things worse. You understand me? You know what I mean, this is like water under the bridge in terms of how people perceive what is being said and how I actually meant it.”, he added.
It is worth noting that Irving and LeBron James did not have a great season in 2022. Both were unable to take their respective teams to decisions in the NBA. The Lakers missed the playoffs, while the Brooklyn Nets were eliminated by the Boston Celtics with a historic “sweep”.
I appreciate it and love y’all love! Wish it was done in winning fashion though! Gave everything I had to this season when I was on the floor! See y’all again in the fall. #Year20 #SFG🚀 #KingMe👑 https://t.co/KBOoHBktjg
