The coach of the Kyiv team spoke about the psychological problems in the team
Budivelnik head coach Valery Plekhanov commented on the victory over Groningen in a match FIBA European Cup.
“As I said before the game, we were disappointed with the loss to Kalev and really wanted to prove that we can do better. Today, the victory was simply necessary, so I’m glad that we got the result. We won, I think, a good team. The guys took to the court today with the right focus, with a solid desire and showed proper aggressiveness.”
“However, we should also admit that we played only two quarters of basketball today. After returning from the dressing room, we very soon began to think that the game was done. A terrible second half in our performance, where we didn’t stick to the game plan at all. But, as I said, the task is completed, so we will analyze all these errors in a good mood. I also want to note the cool atmosphere in the arena, it was a pleasure to play here.”
“If we talk about the difficulties, then this is an experience because of the war that Russia continues to wage against us. My family is in Dnipro, as are the families of many of our players and club employees. This does not allow me to concentrate on basketball 100%, so I am really grateful to the guys that they gave a result today. We’re moving on.”
Recall that Budivelnik beat Groningen in the third round of the FIBA Europe Cup – 74:61.
Budivelnik won the second victory in group F. In the first match, the Kiev team beat Brindisi (74:70), and then lost to BC Kalev/Kramo (74:83). Budivelnik’s next match will be against Brindisi on 2 November.
