November 11 Ukraine will play against the Netherlands
Head coach of the Ukrainian national basketball team Ainars Bagatskis commented on the poor playing practice of some collections called up for qualifying matches World Cup 2023 with the Netherlands and Iceland.
“As a coach, I would like the players to make the right decisions on the court, but if a basketball player, receiving 20 minutes, makes one throw, then it is naive to hope that he will throw more in the national team. I don’t know what state he is in now and what Ivan Tkachenko will show. Budivelnyk has few matches in general, and the Ukrainians don’t get big minutes there. I don’t know what they will show. This also applies to Prometheus players, but Sidorov and Sanon play a little more there. For me, this is the biggest problem, although such a problem should not be. I believe that if a basketball player of the national team plays for a Ukrainian club, he should receive at least 20 minutes in the club. If this is not the case, it will be an additional problem for me as a coach.”
Recall that the list of Bagatskis team includes 13 players. Among them are Prometheus basketball players – Lukashov, Sidorov, Sanon, Tkachenko and Lipovoy. Also, two Budivelnik players, Krutous and Bobrov, were called up to the national team.
On November 11, Ukraine will play against the Dutch national team in Almira, and on November 14, in a home match in Riga, it will host the Icelandic team.
With 7 points after 6 matches, Ukraine is fifth in qualifying group L. The top three teams from the group advance to the World Cup. Before the end of the selection teams have to play four games.
