Brooklyn Nets star Kyrie Irving was suspended by the franchise after making a post promoting an anti-Semitic film; athlete refused to apologize
Brooklyn Nets and Kyrie Irving were once again the subject of great controversy in the NBA. It all started after the player made a post on social media promoting an anti-Semitic film. The post was not well regarded by American society and also by the franchise which the athlete defends. The owner participated in two press conferences to try to explain himself, but his stance was rigid on the subject.
On the two occasions he had to apologize, Kyrie Irving defended himself and refused any possibility of apologizing to society. In the second press conference, by the way, the Brooklyn Nets staff chose to avoid even more controversy and ended the conversation with journalists and the player with just six minutes. After the attitude, the club announced the suspension of the athlete.

According to what was published by the franchise, Kyrie Irving will be suspended for five games due to his anti-Semitic comments. It is worth noting that the Nets had already announced the donation of 2.5 million reais to the Anti-Defamation League, which is responsible for fighting anti-Semitism in the world. Even so, it was not enough for the NBA star to regret the publication on social networks.

“Over the past few days, we have made repeated attempts to work with Kyrie Irving to help him understand the harm and danger of his words and actions, which began with the publication of a film containing deeply disturbing anti-Semitic hatred. We believed that taking the path of education in this challenging situation would be the right thing to do and we thought that we had made progress with our mutual commitment to eradicating hatred and intolerance.
We were dismayed today. When given the opportunity at a media session, Kyrie refused to say unequivocally that he has no anti-Semitic convictions, or acknowledge specific hateful material in the film. It wasn’t the first time he had the opportunity – and failed – to clarify.
This failure to reject anti-Semitism when given a clear opportunity to do so is deeply disturbing, is against our organization’s values, and constitutes conduct detrimental to the team. In this regard, we are of the view that he, at this time, is unfit to be associated with the Brooklyn Nets. We have decided that Kyrie will serve a suspension without pay until he meets a series of objective remedial measures regarding the harmful impact of his conduct. The suspension period is no less than five games“.
