The current president of the FBU is Mikhail Brodsky, the elections will be held on November 18
Two-time NBA champion Stanislav Medvedenko announced that he would not participate in elections for the post of President of the Basketball Federation of Ukraine.
“Many people ask me if I will participate in the elections for the post of President of the Basketball Federation of Ukraine? I will not participate in the elections on 11/18/2022. In these circumstances, I consider it inappropriate to hold new re-elections that will decide the fate of Ukrainian basketball for many years to come. Why?”.
“Because there is a war going on, representatives of the basketball community are also taking part in the defense of the country, many territories have been occupied, many coaches and players are now outside Ukraine.”
“Yes, of course, I believe that the current president of the Federation should resign, due to the unsatisfactory results of his reign. And also, as a person who is not a moral leader and with his behavior is destructive, dividing the basketball family.”
“The General Assembly must elect an independent acting officer who will be able to lead the Federation until the end of the war. And then, the basketball community should get together, form a request for the future, discuss problematic issues and approve the direction of the entire basketball movement, which will be implemented by the new president with his team, in cooperation with all regions.
“Years have already passed when it was possible to monopolize the entire sport and impose their own concepts on everyone. Basketball will not develop until we all start moving forward together. Taking responsibility.”
“Everyone who will vote on November 18 for the new-old president of the Federation must understand that he takes personal responsibility for the development of basketball for the next few years. Then you will not be able to complain that something is wrong, because you will vote for the next years of a development program unknown to anyone, which has already led to the worst results in the years of independence, ”Medvedenko wrote.
In 2019, Medvedenko was expelled from the FBU Executive Committee.
Earlier it was reported that the honorary president of the Basketball Federation of Ukraine Oleksandr Volkov will apply for the post of FBU president.
Recall that the season in the Superleague was overshadowed by the scandalous confrontation between the FBU and BC Prometheus. The club did not confirm its participation in the championship of Ukraine without paying the entry fee. Instead of 40 thousand hryvnia, the FBU demands 4.5 million from Prometheus. FBU President Brodsky explained why such a sum.
