American basketball player Britney Greiner is serving a sentence in a drug trafficking case in a women’s colony in Mordovia, the athlete’s lawyers confirmed.
Earlier on Thursday, it became known that the athlete is in penal colony No. 2 in the village of Yavas.
“First of all, on behalf of Brittney, we want to thank everyone who was concerned about her. Over the past few days we have received a large number of messages with words of encouragement.
We confirm that Brittney has started serving her sentence at IK-2 in Mordovia. We visited him earlier this week. Brittney copes with the situation as much as possible and tries to hold on and adapt to the new conditions. Considering this is a very difficult time for Brittney, there will be no further comment from us in the near future,” the attorneys’ statement provided by read.
The athlete was arrested in February while trying to illegally import hash oil through Sheremetyevo airport. On August 4, the Khimki City Court sentenced an American woman to 9 years in a penal colony in a drug trafficking case. In October, the Moscow Regional Court upheld the verdict. In early November, Greiner was transferred from the remand center to a colony to serve her sentence. Earlier, the athlete’s lawyers said they did not know her whereabouts.
The interests of the 32-year-old basketball player are represented by lawyers Maria Blagovolina and Alexander Boykov.
