Three-time National Basketball Association (NBA) champion Paul Silas has died at the age of 80, Boston Globe reporter Bob Ryan said on Twitter.
Silas was the first NBA coach for two-time Olympian LeBron James. From 2003 to 2005, the specialist led the Cleveland Cavaliers, who selected James with the first number in the 2003 draft.
Silas has also served as head coach of the San Diego Clippers, Charlotte Hornets and New Orleans Hornets.
Silas became an NBA champion as a player in 1974, 1976 and 1979. The specialist ended his coaching career in the league in 2012.
