And thanks to the APU!
The year 2022 is coming to an end. The year that became the most difficult and most terrible in the history of Ukraine. A year that not only changed the habitual way of life of Ukrainians, but also forever changed many of them. The year that finally divided the world into good and evil, light and darkness. The year brought our country a full-scale war, which, after the annexation of Crimea and the occupation of part of the Donbass, Russia unleashed against our country.
February 24, 2022 is a black date in the history of Ukraine. This day, marked by morning missile strikes, and then by a large-scale invasion of the Russian army, forever divided the time and history of our country into “before and after”. This year has deprived many of their habitual place of residence, many of their usual work, many – which is absolutely terrible and terrible, relatives, friends and lives.
It is difficult to sum up some results in such a period of time, evaluating the performances of Ukrainian athletes or significant sporting events. Moreover, many of the first went to the front, many devoted their time to volunteering, almost all of them are trying to help the country and the army.
It is difficult to assess the past 365 days, experiencing missile strikes even on New Year’s Eve. Going down to the shelter during an air raid or leaving for the “Unbreakable Point” to continue working. The only thing we can say is that we have not stopped our work for a single day since February 24th. Even if it was necessary to change priorities and take into account the prevailing realities. And we are grateful to you, really beloved and devoted readers, that you were with us. Yes, not everything was smooth and definitely not the way we would like it to be, but such is the reality.
Probably, there is not a single family left in Ukraine who has not been touched by this vile and terrible war unleashed by the terrorist state Russia against our country. Someone is fighting an acquaintance, someone has a close friend, someone has a friend, someone has a relative. And it is to these people that we owe a relatively quiet life, the opportunity to do our own thing and yes, to watch, empathize, rejoice at the successes and grieve at the failures of our athletes.
Oleksandr Abramenko’s silver at the Beijing Olympics, the Ukrainian national team reached the final of the playoffs of the 2022 World Cup qualification, and the youth team reached the final of Euro 2023, Shakhtar’s bright performance in the Champions League group, and Dnipro-1 in their debut European competition , Usyk’s second victory over Joshua and the European title from Denis Berinchyk – all these moments made us digress a little from the harsh reality and once again experience pride in our country. But already on the fields of sports battles.
We have all changed this year. But we all believe and want the main thing – the victory of Ukraine. No one doubts that it will happen. I just want the terrible price that our people and our country are already paying to not grow. So that all the defenders of our independence and lives, without exception, return home safe and sound! So that Russia brings as little destruction as possible to the life of Ukraine and each of us.
We will definitely stand and we will definitely win! We believe that 2023 will be a turning point and victorious for our country. We have learned to work together and for a common goal! And we will definitely achieve it! Health and strength to you and your loved ones, dear readers! Thank you for being with us and we hope you stay with us. And everything will be Ukraine.
