St. Petersburg basketball player “Zenith” Denis Zakharov received a torn cruciate ligament and will undergo surgery, the club’s press service reports.
The defender suffered a knee injury in a VTB United League regular season home game against Lokomotiv-Kuban Krasnodar on January 10.
– Following a thorough medical examination, the player was diagnosed with a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament in the right knee joint. In the next few days, Denis will have surgery,” Zenith said in a statement.
This season, the 29-year-old defender has played 20 games for the Blues in the VTB United League, averaging 5.4 points per 12 minutes of playing time. The second leg of the United League regular season kicks off on January 28. The St. Petersburg club will play in Group A. Last season, Zakharov became the tournament champion with Zenit.
