President of the Russian Basketball Federation (RBF) Andrei Kirilenko declared on the air of the program “Tous pour le match!” on the channel that the organization maintains permanent contact with the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) and other international sports structures.
On Wednesday, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) said it would consider admitting neutral Russian and Belarusian athletes who do not actively support the IOC to world starts. Previously, in most sports, against the background of the situation in Ukraine, Russians were deprived of the opportunity to participate in international tournaments. IOC chief Thomas Bach admitted on Friday that Russian and Belarusian athletes could participate in the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris in a neutral status.
– We are constantly communicating with FIBA and other international structures in order to be aware of what is happening.
Naturally, you still need to share the sport. There are teams and individuals. If in the latter there is no large affiliation, the athlete speaks for himself, then in the team events the athlete represents his country. Therefore, there is a great debate on the flag or the anthem.
All game sports should have some unified position in their performance in the international movement. When it does, every sport in its federation will defend it,” Kirilenko said.
