Turkish ‘Gaziantep’ match in FIBA ​​Europe Cup not canceled at club’s request

The sixth round match of the group stage of the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) European Cup between Germany’s Crailsheim Merlins and Turkey’s Gaziantep will take place despite the earthquake in Turkey, reports the press service of the FIBA.

FIBA was ready to cancel all matches involving Turkish teams due to the tragedy in the country, but the game between Crailsheim and Gaziantep will be played on Wednesday as scheduled, per the request of the Turkish club. The match will take place on February 8 in Ilshofen, Germany, starting at 8:45 p.m. Moscow time.

All tournament matches will begin with a minute of silence.

On Monday, Turkey’s Youth and Sports Minister Mehmet Muharrem Kasapoglu announced that the country had suspended all sporting events due to the earthquake.

Powerful earthquakes struck southeastern Turkey on Monday. The epicenter was the province of Kahramanmarash, aftershocks were then felt in different parts of the country. According to the latest data, the total death toll in Turkey has exceeded 3,400. National mourning has been declared in the country until February 12.
