Five-time NBA champion jersey Kobe Bryant autographed was auctioned off for $5.8 million, reports ABC News .
According to the publication, the basketball player played in this jersey in one of the matches of the 2007/08 season, after which for the only time in his career he was recognized as the most valuable player in the league.
“This jersey has that iconic quality that you rarely find in sports artifacts. The image of Kobe wearing this jersey during the NBA Playoffs has seeped into popular culture, appeared in murals, in books, journals and became a symbol of her fierce determination and passion, which resonated with viewers around the world, Bram Wachter, head of streetwear and contemporary collectibles at Sotheby’s, said in a statement.
Bryant died in January 2020 in a personal helicopter crash near Los Angeles. His 13-year-old daughter Gianna and seven other people were also on board, no one survived.
The basketball player has played for the Los Angeles Lakers throughout his career.
