Russian Basketball Federation President Andrei Kirilenko and United League President Sergei Kushchenko commented on the signing of an agreement to build a 10,000-seat basketball arena in Perm.
— It must be a multifunctional story. Not only basketball, but I’m sure hockey will also take place, exhibitions will take place, because such a center for such a large number of people must be filled. It will truly become a place of attraction and a place to have a good time. Naturally, it is important for us in basketball that the team plays there, plays at the highest level,” Kirilenko told .
“As Sergei Alexandrovich Belov once said: Perm is the best place for basketball. This phrase lives on. I think that because of this line dedicated to the 300th anniversary of Perm, this important sports segment, in my opinion, reflects the true sports history of the Perm territory that basketball is so loved. It is in Perm that the public will applaud if the opponent plays well. If it’s a race, then more than five thousand will show it’s a race. Everyone knows the rules, everyone loves basketball, they play it,” Kushchenko said.
The arena is expected to be completed by 2026. The preliminary cost of the project is estimated at 19.5 billion rubles.
