Sanon, Kovlyar, Gerun and Pustovoy in Ukraine’s bid for the final qualifying matches of the 2023 World Cup

Ukrainian basketball players will fight for a ticket to the World Cup in fights against Italy and the Netherlands

Ukrainian national basketball team decided on the application for the final matches 2023 World Cup qualifiers against Italy and the Netherlands.

The Ukrainian national team will begin preparations for the matches on February 18 in Riga, and will leave for Italy on February 21.

The composition of the Ukrainian team:

Defenders: Denis Lukashov (Prometheus, Ukraine), Ilya Sidorov (Prometheus, Ukraine), Issuf Sanon (Prometheus, Ukraine), Alexander Kovlyar (Kalev, Estonia), Alexander Lipovy (Prometheus, Ukraine).
Forwards: Bogdan Bliznyuk (Budivelnik, Ukraine), Vladimir Konev (Budivelnik, Ukraine), Andrey Voinalovich (Tartu, Estonia), Artem Kovalev (Pieno Zhvaigzhdes, Lithuania), Vyacheslav Bobrov (Budivelnik, Ukraine).
Center: Vladimir Gerun (Betis, Spain), Artem Pustovoy (Murcia, Spain).

On February 23, the team of Ainars Bagatskis in Livorno will face the team of Italy, and on the 26th they will close the qualification with a nominally home match in Riga against the Netherlands.

Italy have already qualified for the World Cup. Three national teams – Ukraine, Georgia and Iceland – apply for the last ticket from our group.

Before the final window, Ukraine has an advantage over Georgia and Iceland in personal meetings, but loses to competitors in terms of the number of victories won. The Ukrainians need to win both matches and hope that Iceland and Georgia lose at least one match each.
