The legendary basketball player believes that in current conditions, athletes cannot have excuses.
All the strongest basketball players are required to go to the national team and play for it. This was stated in an interview with Basket.com.ua by Honorary President of the Basketball Federation of Ukraine Oleksandr Volkov.
The legendary athlete believes that in the current conditions, members of the national team can not have excuses, especially for NBA players – Alexei Len and Svyatoslav Mikhailyuk.
“It’s hard to imagine that in such a situation there could be any options. Even before the war, I couldn’t imagine how it was possible not to go to the national team, and now it’s incredible to think that our best players don’t come.another level.
In the 2021/22 season, they also don’t have much playing time, although they deserve more attention from the coaches. From this point on, getting five great qualifying matches and then playing in the European Championship is a great opportunity to prove your level to everyone, prove yourself and make people think again about themselves.
Their arrival on the national team is an indicator for all sports in Ukraine and across the country. There is no one today who does not make any contribution to the support of our country. The heroism of our soldiers is not in question here. But whoever can, must contribute to the success of Ukraine. There is no need to talk about it.
And men have the opportunity to prove themselves and attract others. They can show everyone that they are citizens of their country, present in a difficult moment and do everything that depends on them, ”Volkov said.
Remember that this summer the Ukrainian men’s basketball team can play 5 games simultaneously as part of the qualification for the 2023 World Cup. Three of them will take place in early July. If they pass the next round, two more matches will be played at the end of August.
