Bobrov: They showed good basketball against Italy, but there was not enough fight from us and a lot of losses during passes

Ukraine lost to Italy and lost the chances of reaching the final of the 2023 World Cup

Forward of the Ukrainian national basketball team Vyacheslav Bobrov commented defeat in 2023 World Cup qualifier against Italy (75:85).

“Emotionally it was hard, a very loud hall. We made a lot of mistakes and let the Italians go forward. I think that we played well, showed good basketball, but there was not enough fight from us. We missed a lot of free throws. The Italians hit, were aggressive on the rebound. We had a lot of passing losses. It was difficult to play, because there were only ten of us. We missed Vladimir Konev and Anatoly Shundel.”

“We will play 120% against the Netherlands, we need to win in front of our fans. We want to finish the qualification on a positive note, although we know that we can no longer reach the World Cup. We will give 100% for ourselves.”

“A year has passed since the terrorists invaded Ukraine. Emotionally it was hard, but only the first minutes, because everyone knows that we have a great responsibility not only for ourselves, but for the whole of Ukraine. We never forget about the war, we know that our relatives, friends, fans are at home. We are all waiting for the main victory of Ukraine.”

The team of Ainars Bagatskis could not qualify for the 2023 World Cup – the blue-yellows are in fifth place and theoretically will not be able to climb one line up.

On February 26, Ukraine will close the qualification for the world championship with a nominally home match in Riga against the Netherlands.
