Volkov: Poland and Lithuania are ready to allocate infrastructure for us to host the championship

One option is to join the Polish championship

Honorary President of the Basketball Federation of Ukraine Alexander Volkov said that Poland, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia could help with the next season of the Super League.

“As for the performance of Ukrainian teams abroad, this issue is not closed, it is being discussed. We had many initial negotiations: with Greek basketball, with Cyprus, Bulgaria, Poland, Lithuania, Turkey, Latvia and Estonia. Everyone was ready to help and find compromises,” Volkov said.

“Today there are four options. Firstly, we have an agreement with the Polish federation: as soon as we present a specific number of our clubs with budgets and the ability to play, and the federation receives support from the state to work in this direction, we can immediately begin the process. Therefore, one of the options is to join the Polish championship. Another option is to allocate territory for our league, where there are not so many Polish teams, but there is an appropriate infrastructure, preferably closer to the border with Ukraine. The Poles are waiting for our letters, the decision of the state and the federation.”

“As for the Lithuanians, they are not inclined to join our clubs to their championship, but are ready, as in Poland, to provide us with a territory with the appropriate infrastructure for the championship.”

“Well, about the option with the Latvian-Estonian league – the countries themselves really want us to join them. They are ready to expand the joint championship, so they are taking the initiative. Besides Latvians already help with the point of view of preparation of our national team. They say they are ready to take on as many clubs as they need.”

Previously, it was decided to end all competitions of the 2021/22 season ahead of schedule. All tournaments were suspended on February 24 due to the full-scale invasion of Russian troops into the country.

Thus, Prometheus finished the season in the first place in the men’s Superleague. In March, Prometheus President Vladimir Dubinsky announced the dissolution of all club teams. The second position in the Superleague was taken by Budivelnyk, the third was Kyiv-Basket.
