CSKA head coach Dimitris Itoudis in a press conference, he announced his departure from the capital club after the defeat in the final of the VTB United League against Zenit.
“Zenith ” won CSKA in the final series with a score of 4-3 and won the trophy for the first time.
– Congratulations to Zenit, they played better and deserved to win. It was a tough series, I think the players and the coaches liked it. We had to face difficulties during this season. I would like to thank the supporters for their understanding, the club is doing a great job of increasing the number of supporters. Together with the club, we have decided to part ways, I’m not saying goodbye, I’m saying see you soon,” Itoudis told reporters.
– I don’t need a break, the work with the Greek national team is starting. The only break is an evening with the team. I don’t have any information about the next CSKA coach though [президент] Vatutin wants to know advice, ready to give. I am grateful to the technical staff, they have a bright future. We will be in touch with everyone,” Itoudis added.
Earlier, the media reported that the 51-year-old Greek was set to move to Turkish Fenerbahce. In March, Itoudis took charge of the Greek national team and will make his debut in this role at EuroBasket 2022.
Itoudis has coached CSKA since 2014. Under his leadership, the army team won the Euroleague twice and the VTB United League six times.
