SKA head coach, first vice-president of the Russian Ice Hockey Federation (RHF) Romain Rotenberg congratulated Petersburg “Zenith with the VTB United Basketball League Championship title, noting the role Alexei Miller in the success of the team.
Zenit won the VTB League title for the first time this season, beating CSKA Moscow 4-3 in the final series. The Saint Petersburg club interrupted the hegemony of the army club, which had previously won the trophy nine times in a row.
– I sincerely congratulate all the players, the coaches, the staff, the management of the club and of Gazprom, all the fans of the Bleus-Blancs-Bleus for this well-deserved championship. Special congratulations to Alexey Borisovich Miller, whose support and love for St. Petersburg sport helps teams win trophies for our city year after year. Without such attention and many years of targeted assistance from Gazprom, it would be impossible to succeed.
The confrontation in the final series will undoubtedly go down in the history of national basketball: the rivals showed the highest level of skill, dedication, psychological stability, but at key moments the team of Saint -Petersburg was stronger. I am happy to have been present in the seventh game of the series and to have been able to personally congratulate Zenit for this incredible success.
This sports season has become truly golden for our city: St. Petersburg fans attended the football and basketball championship, SKA-1946 also won the Kharlamov Cup for the first time in history. These victories once again confirmed that St. Petersburg is rightfully considered the sports capital of Russia. I have no doubt that in the future the teams of our city will do everything to please the fans as often as possible with new successes, achievements and trophies. Again with a big win, Zenit,” Rotenberg wrote on the Telegram channel.
