Russians may be allowed to qualify for the Olympics in another sport. According to FIBA’s official website, the organization is considering the possibility of accepting basketball players from the aggressor country in the pre-qualification for the 2024 Olympics in Paris.
It should be noted that 40 teams will play in the preliminary selection for the Games, 28 of them competed in the second round of qualification for the World Cup and did not qualify for the final part of the competition. Another 12 teams that did not make it to the final round of selection for the 2023 World Cup are ranked.
In Russia, it is one of the highest. The Aggressor is among the four best teams in Europe in the ranking. The final decision on the participation of Russians in the selection for the Olympics will be made on April 28.
