Ex-coach Khimik Stepanovsky will lead the basketball team of Ukraine – media

The appointment on Tuesday must be approved by the FBU Executive Committee

Former Coach Chemist Vitaly Stepanovsky ready to lead Ukrainian national basketball team.

The Basketball Federation of Ukraine has already agreed with the specialist. Now his appointment must be approved by the FBU Executive Committee, which will hold a meeting on Tuesday.

The 41-year-old specialist leads the Romanian Craiova. Also, Stepanovsky was a member of the coaching staff of Ainars Bagatskis in the selection for EuroBasket 2021 and the World Cup 2023.

Stepanovsky twice became the champion of Ukraine with Khimik as head coach and assistant. Also, under his leadership, the student team of Ukraine won silver medals at the 2019 Universiade.

Head coach of the Ukrainian national team Ainars Bagatskis left his post after qualifying for the 2023 World Cup. Under his leadership, the blue-and-yellows reached the 1/8 finals of EuroBasket 2022. In the selection for the 2023 World Cup, the Ukrainian team reached the second stage, but failed to qualify for the main tournament.
