The Toronto Raptors’ press service announced the departure of Nick Nurse as the club’s head coach.
In his first season as Canada’s head coach, the 55-year-old nurse won the 2018-19 NBA title, the club’s only league title in history. Nurse also received the 2019/20 Regular Season Coach of the Year award.
“Decisions about such changes are never easy. Especially when it comes to the man who became an integral part of this franchise’s historic achievements and served as its leader for many years. We thank Nick and his family and wish them the best for the future,” club chairman Masai Ujiri said.
The president also added that the change of head coach will help the club restart and build a team that can win the league title next season.
Nurse has been on Toronto’s coaching staff since 2003. This season, the Canadian club failed to make the playoffs, losing in the preliminary round to Chicago.
