VTB United League CEO Ilona Korstin said that the positive international experience of selling beer at basketball games should be used in Russia.
On Wednesday, the State Duma hosts a meeting of the Physical Culture and Sports Committee, which discusses the issue of returning beer sales to stadiums. Representatives of the Ministry of Sports, the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the General Prosecutor’s Office, the RFU, the Association of Football Clubs “Russian Premier League”, the Continental Hockey League, the VTB United League, the Supreme Council of the Russian Rugby Federation, the football clubs “Spartak”, Dynamo, CSKA, Lokomotiv, Zenit, Krasnodar, Akron, deputies of the State Duma.
— United League supports this law. In our case, the question is complex, the arena will receive revenue from the sale. We are more interested in beer advertising. After the pandemic and the sanctions, funding for clubs has declined. This law could attract additional funding. On the other hand, this law will increase attendance, which is important for us.
There is a positive international experience in basketball. In other countries, beer is sold freely. In basketball, the fans are much calmer, it’s more of a family sport. We have hardly any skirmishes or drunk parishes. If there are security requirements for our sport, we can solve them,” reports correspondent Korstin.
Live broadcasts of United League matches are broadcast on the Match holding television channels, as well as on the matchtv.ru and sportbox.ru websites.
