Minnesota basketball player Edwards faces jail time for assaulting arena workers after NBA playoff game

Basketball player “Minnesota” Anthony Edwards was charged with third-degree assault on two arena employees after their NBA first-round playoff game against Denver, the AP reported.

The incident happened on Tuesday. Denver beat Minnesota 112-109 to win the series in five games, 4-1. Minnesota finished the season. According to a report obtained by Denver police, Edwards was entering a locker room when he hit two women with a folding chair. Both employees suffered minor injuries, police said. Edwards is due in court on June 9.

According to media reports, under Colorado law, a 21-year-old player faces up to 18 months in jail and/or a fine of up to a thousand dollars.

The Timberwolves released a statement regarding the incident.

Edwards, Minnesota’s first pick in the 2020 draft, scored 158 points in five playoff games against Denver, tied for the fifth-most playoff series in NBA history among players under 22.
