The match in the most prestigious club basketball tournament in Europe was not completed.
The second match of the playoffs of the Euroleague Basketball Real – Partizan was ahead of schedule. The judges had to do this because of the mass brawl that broke out on the site.
Passions flared 100 seconds before the end of the final quarter. Real Madrid point guard Sergio Yul intentionally fouled guest player Kevin Panteri. The representative of the Serbian team could not control his emotions, which led to a massive brawl.
Finally, not only all the basketball players of both teams, including the substitutes, took part in the mass disorder, but also the employees and coaches of the clubs. Because of this, almost all the participants in the match were withdrawn by the arbitrators, so no one was able to finish the match.
After the match, the Euroleague made an official statement about this situation, awarding the victory in the match to Partizan.
“When the suspension was applied to players involved in the scrum and to those automatically suspended for leaving the bench area, neither team had the required minimum of two players needed to complete the game, so the match was considered officially finished the score at the time of the stoppage is 80-95 in favor of Partizan, who now leads the series with a score of 2-0,” the statement said.
It should be noted that the lack of restraint of the players of Real Madrid and their provocation of a match can be explained by the defeats in two home matches with Partizan, and this despite the fact that Madrid are considered favorites and had their court advantage in the series. The next match between the teams will take place on May 2 in Serbia.
