Sergei Ivanov: “We must keep the sports center of CSKA in the center of Moscow and drive out all the entrepreneurs”

Permanent member of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, honorary president of the VTB United League, Sergei Ivanov, in an interview with , said that the CSKA sports company should keep its sports complexes in the center of the capital.

The CSKA Universal Sports Complex on Leningradsky Prospekt in Moscow was the arena for PBC CSKA. Was demolished in 2022.

– CSKA have recovered from the loss of their long-time home – USK in Leningradka?

– A philosophical question. For one thing, the Sports Palace was old, built for the 1980 Olympics. For a sports facility with its complex communications and functions, half a century is a long time. On the other hand, the club had a problem. But – temporary. On the site of the demolished USC CSKA, the foundations of a new palace have been poured, construction is underway. Certainly, the Ministry of Defense wants to combine basketball, a swimming pool and a room for another sport in the same building. It may be necessary to increase the number of floors, because the club with its office, changing rooms, training rooms, medical facilities in small areas will be crowded. If the space is the same as in the old USK, still good, less is undesirable. Even though Megasport appeared nearby.

– It has been reported that there are plans to take the USK CSKA pitch for non-sports development. As a result, a basketball palace will appear at the old location?

– Certainly. They managed to defend the athletics arena, a new hockey arena will be built. We need to keep the army sports cluster in the center of Moscow and drive out all the developers from there, it’s a place of prayer,” Ivanov said in an interview with .

At the moment, CSKA basketball is playing its home games at Megasport Arena.
