Earlier on Sunday, the Russian Basketball Federation (RBF) announced that Russia’s honored coach Sergei Selivanov died at the age of 72.
“What can I say, it’s very sad. In general, he was still young. I worked with Selivanov for 11 years. He is a very professional person. I’m glad that fate m brought to this man. He had been seriously ill for six months… I can say one thing: he loved basketball very much, knew and understood it very well. He was a cultured and very thoughtful person. We were friends He was a great friend,” Yelevich told a correspondent.
As a student, Selivanov attended educational courses at the Timiryazevskaya Sports School, then worked there and twice led the team to victory in the USSR Championship.
Selivanov worked with many coaching legends – Evgeny Gomelsky, Alexander Zinin, Stanislav Eremin, Sergey Elevich, Modestas Paulauskas, Yuri Selikhov, Vladimir Obukhov.
The specialist was at the origins of Spartak Moscow which appeared in the 90s, of which he was the head coach. Later, Selivanov, together with Sergei Elevich, worked in Khimki near Moscow.
