The official representative of the Russian Interior Ministry, Irina Volk, said that the Moscow police had opened a criminal investigation for intentionally causing serious bodily harm to a CSKA basketball player. Alexei Shved as a result of which the athlete was hospitalized with a traumatic brain injury.
On Monday evening, unknown persons attacked Shved near one of the restaurants in Moscow. On May 1, CSKA lost to Krasnodar club Lokomotiv-Kuban (100:103) in the seventh game of the United League semi-final playoff series.
– On causing serious bodily harm to the leading player of the CSKA basketball team, the investigator of the Russian Interior Ministry for the Presnensky district in Moscow filed a criminal case on the grounds of a crime under Part III of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.
A well-known basketball player was badly beaten by unidentified people on Bolshaya Nikitskaya Street tonight, after which he was taken to the surgical ward of one of Moscow’s clinics. In the shortest possible time, the police carried out an inspection, as a result of which a criminal case was opened.
Currently, operational search activities and investigative actions are being carried out to determine the whereabouts and detain those suspected of committing this high-profile crime, the Russian Interior Ministry’s press service quoted Volk as saying.
Thus, citizens who intentionally committed grievous bodily harm as part of a group face up to 12 years.
Earlier, Shved’s agent Obrad Fomich said on social media that the basketball player suffered an open craniocerebral injury with skull bone fractures and brain contusion. According to CSKA, the basketball player was out of action for an indefinite period. He will not be able to take part in the team’s next matches in the series for third place in the VTB League.
