Head coach of a basketball club UNICS Velimir Perasovich said that in the seventh game of the VTB United League semi-final series with Saint Petersburg “Zenith” luck was on his team’s side.
The meeting in Kazan ended with the score of 80:79 in favor of the hosts, who scored a decisive point thanks to a free throw less than a second before the siren. UNICS won the series 4–3.
“I am happy for the club and especially for the players because we have worked very hard throughout the season. This entry into the final is therefore a great reward for all of us. The match turned out to be very tough, but Game 7 couldn’t have been any different. In the end, Zenit controlled the course of the game, but we showed a very good reaction in the last minutes and snatched the victory. This series with Zenit turned out to be one of the most difficult of my coaching career. I am very happy that it ended in our favor.
In the semi-finals, two very equal teams met, who know each other well. Zenit tried to take advantage of our weaknesses, and we, in turn, attacked their weaknesses. In the end, everything was decided by chance. In the previous game in St. Petersburg, fortune smiled on Zenit, and today, in the seventh game, we had more success. The guests had the last possession, but they lost the ball. It happens.
Dimitrijevic played very well this playoff. He was arguably the best attacking player in UNICS. But we have other guys in the team who also played very well, the UNICS press service quoted Perasovich as saying.
UNICS will face Krasnodar club Lokomotiv-Kuban in the final. The first two games of the series will take place on May 6 and 8 in Kazan.
