The coach of “Zenith” called the defeat of the team in the seventh game of the series against UNICS incredible

The head coach “Zenith” Javier Pascal said that it is difficult to find an explanation for the defeat of the Kazan team UNICS in Game 7 of the VTB United League semi-final series.

The meeting in Kazan ended with the score of 80:79 in favor of the hosts, who scored a decisive point thanks to a free throw less than a second before the siren. UNICS won the series 4–3.

– This may not be the best time, but now I would like to convey words of support to Alexei Shved, who was attacked yesterday. Our thoughts are with him, his family and the CSKA family. We hope he gets better soon.

As for the game, it was a game that at some point became impossible to lose. But we lost. We controlled the game until the end, everything had to end in a win or overtime, and the way we lost is unbelievable. Sometimes it happens, but when it happens you can’t believe it.

We had 5 seconds left, 79-79, if I’m not mistaken, we had the ball, so either we won or we went to extra time. But what happened is incredible.

How do you like the game in general?

– Speaking in general about the game, I have to congratulate the players. We are who we are. During these qualifiers, we lost two important players – Trey Tompkins and Sergey Karasev. It limited us.

But we fought, we controlled the game, and I think we had a good chance of winning today. But everything happened as it happened. We didn’t win any free throws: UNICS went online 22 times, we only 11. We held on all the time, but we have what we have,” Pascual told the press service of the Zenit.

In the series for third place, Zenit will play with CSKA Moscow, UNICS will meet Krasnodar club Lokomotiv-Kuban in the final.
